About the course:

The Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC in Engineering provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the Engineering sector. You will focus on the foundations of Engineering with the potential to take one of the following two pathways focusing on either:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical-Electronic Engineering

Entry requirements:

• 64 UCAS points from at least 2, but preferably three GCE A levels or equivalent in subjects related to engineering or an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) in Engineering

• Applicants should also have the equivalent of 5 GCSEs At grade C or above (or equivalent) including English and maths

• Mandatory: Analytical methods for Engineers
• Engineering Science
• Health Safety and Risk assessment in Engineering
• Engineering Design
• Materials Engineering
• Advanced Computer Aided Design Techniques
• Programmable Logic Controllers
• Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation


Course assessment:

You will be assessed by internal assignments set and marked by your tutors. Each individual unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D).

Special features:

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering enables students to develop a wide range of skills related
to the Engineering sector. This practical based course will include educational visits and you will lead on your own work related project.

Career and professional development:

There is the opportunity to progress onto a HND or a Degree course in your chosen engineering field. The skills and knowledge you will develop will support internal progression within the industry. Career opportunities include civil engineering, engineering technician, energy engineer, engineer maintenance filter, process operator and systems engineer.


Additional costs: All students receive an initial allocation of 600 credits per academic year for printing and photocopying, additional credits can be purchased if required.
