Tony teaches on the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Public Services after a long career in Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. He has extensive experience of operational fire-fighting, rescue and community safety, working for many years in the inner-city fire-ground areas across Greater Manchester. He was also the Regional Secretary in the Fire Brigades Union and has extensive experience of political, organisational and human resource issues.


He has a BA (Hons) in Politics and Contemporary History and MA in Intelligence and International Relations, both undertaken part-time at Salford University. He is also a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Before teaching at Bury College Tony was a Station Commander in the Fire Service Operational Assurance Team undertaking safety audits of major operational incidents, performance management and community safety. After taking a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at University of Bolton, Tony has taught in Public Services at Bury College for the last five years.

Research interest and publications.

I have contributed to the journal Intelligence and National Security providing a book review on the intelligence war in Northern Ireland.
